Product care

We use wool throughout our lives, from birth to old age.  Wool products are very versatile and warm. Vingtor products have a long lifespan when treated correctly. Our products are made from Norwegian wool. Wool has a long tradition and has been used for thousands of years. We save the environment by not washing too often. Wool is self-cleaning and has antibacterial properties. If you want to freshen up your blanket, you can hang it outside to air out when it is a little damp outside. If you have the opportunity, lay it out in the snow and leave it for a few hours, but avoid strong sunlight.

All wool can be washed, you just need to know how to handle it properly to maintain its softness and give the product a long life. How we dry a washed wool product is also very important. Do not wash the wool unless absolutely necessary.

Machine wash 30 degrees

When washing a wool product in a washing machine, use the programs – cold wash, wool wash, hand wash, no more than 30 degrees – Do not wash with other garments and only one blanket per wash. Do not use powder, only liquid detergent. Remember to spin at the lowest speed. You can also use special wool softeners, but only a very small amount and rinse the blanket thoroughly afterwards, as it can cause stains, unpleasant odors or provoke allergies if you leave any of the softener behind.

Hand washing

Smaller items, such as small blankets, seat pads and cushion covers, may be best washed by hand. Fill a bathtub or large bucket with lukewarm water, max. 30 degrees, add a little mild soap suitable for washing wool and let the wool item soak for about an hour. After it has soaked, gently rub any soiled parts with another part of the product. When everything is washed, drain the water, refill with clean water and let it soak for another 15 minutes – repeat this several times until all the soap has been washed out. Then follow the recommendations below for drying.

No bleaching

A wool product must not be bleached as it will destroy the wool fiber and ruin your wool product.

Drying wool

Do not tumble dry your wool product. Instead, we recommend that you lay it flat to dry. When you take the product out of the machine, or after hand washing, it will be quite wet, gently squeeze out any excess water (do not wring!). Lay it flat on a cotton towel. Smooth out any “wrinkles” (if it is a blanket, fold it to a quarter of its size). It is important that the product is placed on top of an absorbent material, such as a towel, as the moisture from the wool will be absorbed downwards. Replace the towel with a dry one until the wool is completely dry (if the weather is nice, this can be done outside, but remember to keep it out of direct sunlight). Do not shake or hang a wet wool product as this can change the shape of the product.

Ironing

You can gently iron a wool product using the steam settings on your iron. Don't press too hard to maintain softness, and use a medium to low heat setting.
